It’s that time of the year. Spring has sprung and we are spring cleaning our City. Keep McAllen Beautiful (KMB) is organizing their annual Great American Clean-Up & Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-off to take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 8am-12noon at McAllen Municipal Park. Put your cleaning shoes on and join us as we traverse our city’s major streets, hike and bike trails, city parks and schools to help keep our city looking clean and beautiful. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Volunteers come from all walks of life such as students, business leaders, civic and non-profit organizations, individuals, families, community and religious groups, sororities, fraternities, sports teams, and the military. Volunteers who participate will be issued safety vests, gloves, trash bags, a free t-shirt, and then assigned a designated area to pick up litter. This year, volunteers are being encouraged to transport themselves to assigned areas. Once volunteers complete their cleanup and return to the park, they will be treated to hot dogs, soda, games and various raffle prizes.

This episode focuses on the winner of the 2025 McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run at the McAllen Convention Center. The City of McAllen hosted the event in January with more than 12,000 runners and spectators in this year’s race. For the 11th year, there were more than 5,000 runners registered for the marathon, half marathon, relay marathon, 10K run, or 5K run. McAllen Independent School District had more than 5,000 students participating in the McAllen Kids Marathon. There is also a heartwarming story about a young man with special needs who rides his wheelchair while his runner pushes him throughout the marathon course. His team of supporters are called “Team Tony” meet his family that supports him from start to finish at the McAllen Marathon. The success of the McAllen Marathon is driven by community support. The City of McAllen would like to thank all the sponsors who make this event memorable and one of a kind in the Rio Grande Valley.

The City of McAllen is participating in the 2025 Healthier Texas Challenge, formerly known as the “It’s Time Texas Challenge.” McAllen is leading the way again thanks to city employees, residents and McAllen Independent School District students who are enrolled in this statewide wellness campaign. If you would like to help the City of McAllen win this health and wellness competition statewide download the app from the app store or google play store. The Challenge will run from January 13th to March 9th.
